The flight was to staged in the Auckland suburb of Whangaparoa after heavy planning, gear checks and weeks of test flights by U.S drone tech company Flirty the CAA and AT finally gave approval for the flight to take place. With no room for error the flight consisted of a fresh pizza being delivered by a Dominos worker straight to the awaiting drone positioned outside the Dominos Whangaparoa store. The pizza was attached to the drone and then fly approx 500m to the customers house where the drone lowered the pizza to the ground. PURE captured the event with several camera and a chase drone to ensure a selection of angles and that nothing was missed. The entire event was also broadcast live to the Dominos New Zealand and Australian Facebook pages via smart phone and Facebook Live. The footage was then edited and turned around for general realise to news stations within 2 hours of the drone landing and within minutes was hitting the news headlines around the globe. Is this the future? Maybe not yet but in years to come I think we'll be seeing drone delivery of certain items to certain areas. Great work Dominos!
